Easter preparations

With Advent and Christmas only just over (or so it seems), the Priory crafters are enthusiastically throwing themselves into preparations for Easter, lured this time by freshly-baked homemade hot cross buns, yet more cheese scones (good for those giving up sweet things for Lent) and fresh coffee and tea.

This year the theme is ‘New life, new growth’, based around the story of The Three Trees. If you don’t yet know this thought-provoking folk tale, you soon will.

A playlist, chosen by the Vicar, gave a merry atmosphere, as leaves (three varieties; apple, lime and fig) were cut from green paper and strung, and 264 origami boats were folded by novice boat-folders, who rapidly became experts. A lake was painted onto hardboard screwed over the ‘Join the Christmas Story’ layout, using more emulsion tester pots, with amusingly extravagant names. All 36 hot cross buns disappeared, as did the cheese scones.

Meanwhile, in a Malvern artist’s studio, more Priory volunteers eco-printed paper to make prayer flowers, using local seasonal flowers and spring foliage and a Rose Madder dye. Once dried, the beautiful and fascinating prints were then cut into flower shapes by yet more volunteers.

But that’s not it… a cross and a manger are needed, too. Following the most basic of ‘designs’ given to him by the Curate, another volunteer created both, very satisfyingly upcycling floorboards from the old Priory nave floor.

Priory Plans for Easter are progressing well!
