A joyful sound
The annual Junior Choristers’ Concert filled the Priory with music and the hearts of the audience with joy.
The sheer range of talent and instruments on display inspired all…
…from brand new members of the choir, to post Grade 8 musicians (that’s as far as graded exams go)
…from voice to piano, clarinet and flute
…from beginners giving their very first concert to ‘old hands’ who’ve been performing for over 10 years
…from Mozart and Chopin, to ‘Mary had a Little Lamb’ and hits from musicals and films…
each performer brought skill and personal interpretation of their piece, charming the hugely supportive audience.
Four ensemble pieces, including an anthem which Piers (Director of Music) had sung as an audition piece in his youth as a chorister, and much-loved by the choir, rounded off the musical part of the evening beautifully.
A sandwich buffet supper for all followed, in the nave (no one even notices that the nave floor is level any more; it’s seamlessly become part of Priory life!). Then it was time for The Raffle. A mere 60 prizes, called and described in a hilariously drole style, ensured that almost everyone who bought raffle tickets won a prize and many went home with more than one.
’A wonderful evening’ was the sentiment as the audience left and the clearer-uppers started the Great Nave Clear Up ahead of worship at 8am the next morning. Not a single wayward crisp remained.
Congratulations to all the performers and well done for raising an excellent sum towards activities for the Junior Choir in the coming year.
