New life, new growth

As Holy Week approaches, St Giles’ Chapel has been transformed.

A beautiful, sustainable, Easter Garden of potted plants with a central cross is a focal point for reflection. En route to the Easter Garden is the all-age activity based on the Tale of The Three Trees.

Three large branches (too big for an estate car, and carried a mile to the Priory) representing the trees, are bedecked with leaves made by volunteers in the Easter craft workshops The first ‘tree’ stands alongside a manger filled with straw - what might be hidden in the straw?

A ‘lake’ lies beside the second tree, with a fishing boat carrying Jesus as he stills the storm - how will you decorate your boat to sail with Jesus on the Sea of Galilee?

And finally, the third tree stands beside a cross, made from planks from the old nave floor. Everyone’s invited to make the cross blossom with prayers written on flower shapes cut from eco-printed paper.

As the first visitors stood in front of the Easter Garden, whilst others took part in the activities, the Easter story, told and re-told in the Priory since 1085 was brought to life once more in the Priory of today.

The Easter Garden and the Tale of the Three Trees activities run until 12th April during Priory opening hours. Check the Calendar for details. All Welcome!
