Joining the Christmas Story

Three troops of Scouts, our local PCSO, visitors from as far away as Australia, Ken (from Reynolds Conservation) who helped to lay the new Nave Floor, people of all ages… all are Joining the Christmas Story at the Priory.

By word of mouth, through social media, or just by coming into the Priory to enjoy the magnificent building and the first-ever Christmas Tree Festival, more and more people are taking part in this new Priory project.

Selecting a peg doll - there’s a huge range of sizes and types available (at the moment!) - and settling down to decorate it as themselves with the pens provided, in the beautiful, atmospheric, warm, Priory surroundings and then thoughtfully placing it onto the decorated Nativity scene, seems to have struck a chord with many.

Such were the numbers of peg dolls joining the scene, the Holy Family ‘disappeared’ amongst the crowds after five days, requiring a low platform to be retro-installed and lit, so that shorter participants could see what the Christmas story is all about - Jesus, in the manger.

The adhesion of the Blu-tack (other brands are available) has successfully been put to the test as peg dolls are now, unexpectedly, stuck in doorways on the vertical part of the scene. Some have been placed, Zaccheus-like, on roofs.

’Join the Christmas Story’ is growing and growing, with well over 1,000 dolls in place by Advent Sunday.

Why not come in to the Priory and take part, yourself? Priory opening hours and visitor info are here.
