Is it a lawnmower?
Project Light and Space took the first step forward ‘on the ground’ when the Geophysical Survey was carried today.
What may have looked like a lawnmower without blades was actually a Ground Penetrating Radar rig. It sent pulses of microwave radiation into the ground, through both tarmac and grass, and measured the reflections which returned.
For each hour of GPR survey, 10 hours of analysis by trained experts will be needed to interpret the data. Then, alongside the desk studies of maps, plans and photos taken by the archaeological team, the best locations for trial trenches will be identified. These small, temporary, excavations will show exactly what lies beneath the surface. They’ll help the Project Light and Space team determine the best location for the new building.
We’ll also be assessing tenders for some of the professional consultants who will be working on the Project, including the Structural and Civil Engineer, Building Services/MEP Engineer, Quantity Surveyor/Cost Consultant and Landscape Architect. And interviews for the Project Manager, who will be part of the Team working at the Priory, will be taking place, soon.
