Newsletter - 27/09

Sunday 27th September, 16th Sunday after Trinity

Dear friends,

Welcome to this week's newsletter. We meet online or in the Priory in the name of Jesus, our Saviour and Lord.

In today's epistle reading Paul said: "Therefore God exalted Jesus to the highest placeand gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow." Today is the 16thSunday after Trinity, and our theme is "The Authority of Jesus". Chris will be reflecting on the reading in Matthew's Gospel. You will be able to find this service online.

At the Priory, Bishop John is ordaining Jonny as a Priest. This means that Jonny will be able to preside at communion, conduct weddings, give absolution and a priestly blessing. It marks the end of a long preparation period. Jonny was ordained Deacon last year. He remains a  Deacon, a "servant of the church", but his priesting gives him a new ministry to explore and enjoy. We celebrate with him today. We hope to show a clip from this service in next week's online service if we can.

Rita and I have just returned from a lovely two week break in Chester and the Lake District. When I returned to the Priory I had a great surprise. The garden had been transformed, with a fresh strip of grass, a small stone feature which provides the base for a bench dedicated to our former Custos, Peter Young, and lots of shrubs planted. The markings had been completed too. I was very impressed! I would like to thank Ivor Jones, Ray Hussey and Richard Hookham who worked hard on this under the skilful direction of Ollie Marks. What a difference! You have done an amazing job.

Do mark in your diaries the date of the Church APCM: it will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 22 October 2020 via Zoom. Please consider serving on the PCC. The Churchwardens will guide you to nomination forms, or download them here. We need you!

Every blessing,

Rod

Information

Sunday services in the Priory: This weekwe have 8am BCP Holy Communion (for those who have regularly attended this service in the past) with celebrant Revd Tony Whalley. Please remember that face coverings must be worn unless you are exempt on health grounds. The gates will be open at 7.40am, but you may have to queue outside for entry to maintain social distancing. Then at 10.30am our Curate Jonny will be ordained priest by The Bishop of Worcester and unfortunately there are no tickets available for this service. This means our usual 9.30 and 11am services have been cancelled this week, but our online service will be available on the website as usual.

Next Sunday (4thOctober) there will be BCP Holy Communion at 8am and CW Holy Communion at 9.30am and 11am. Rod will preach at all three services.

From October the usual pattern of services at 9.30 and 11am will be Holy Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays and Morning Worship on 2nd and 4th Sundays.

The Priory will be open Mon/Wed from 11am to 4pm and Fri/Sat 11am to 1.30pm, for general visitors and private prayer (closed Tue/Thu). A maximum of 30 people are allowed in at any one time.  Please maintain social distancing at all times and follow the instructions given. Unfortunately the toilets will not be open.

A date for our diaries Because of the coronavirus pandemic we had to postpone this year's Annual Church Meeting. It will now take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 22nd October 2020. To enable as many people as possible to attend, taking into account social distancing guidance, the meeting will take the form of a telephone/Zoom video conference (The link to enable members of the congregation to join the meeting will be circulated a few days before the meeting, and again on the day of the meeting). This is our opportunity to reflect on our activities last year, review our finances and learn about the current situation with the Priory Plan. Not to be missed! The Booklet of Reports to the APCM is available on the members' section of the Priory website, and there are copies available at services today.

Your PCC needs YOU!  Elections to fill 6 vacancies on the PCC will be heldat October's Annual Church Meeting. The time commitment is not too onerous, with four or five Thursday evening PCC meetings and one Saturday meeting per annum. Members will also serve on one of four committees – Buildings & Grounds, Finance, Mission and Worship. This is your chance to contribute to decision-making in your church. If you feel that you could serve in this important way, please download and complete a nomination form from the website and return it to the PCC Secretary at The  Parish Office, Church House, Church Street, Malvern WR14 2AY, or by email. Alternatively, nomination forms are available by contacting the Parish Office. Previous PCC experience definitely not required! Nominations are also invited for 5 representatives on the Deanery Synod (see separate nomination form).

Magazine Thank you to our faithful magazine distributors in these difficult times. There are a few subscriptions still outstanding, so please let Roger Sutton have these as soon as possible.

Choirs' CD The CD of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany music, "People, look East", recorded by the Priory choirs back in February (with Peter Shepherd on organ), will be available for sale through the Priory Friends' Shop from 19th September.  Please download the order form, which includes details of how to pay and arrange for copy(ies) to be posted should you not want to collect in person.

The Parish Office is closed until further notice. You can contact the office by email, which is monitored regularly.

Unfortunately, the organ recital due in November has been cancelled due to the Covid situation.

Intercessions Suggested prayers of intercession for this week can be found in the link on the right of this page. This week these have been written by Derek Valentine.
