Intercessions - 27/09

God has called us; as we meet in His name let us bring to Him our prayers which come from our love and concern for His Church, His creation and His People.

We pray for those who are being ordained priest and deacon at this time.  We pray that they may find a way of looking positively on the current challenges of ministry; that You would be close to them and guide them in their development.  We pray especially for our curate, Jonny, being ordained Priest by Bishop John this morning.  We give thanks to You for bringing him and Katie to Malvern and we pray that he will feel blessed in his ministry among us.

Lord God, we thank you for all the help and encouragement that we are given from the Church – from its worship, teaching and fellowship; inspire us all not just to desire Your authority but also to accept it willingly and answer Your calling for us.

Father God, work in us, inspiring both will and deed.

Lord, we pray for the world, where the misery and tragedy of wrong choices grieves Your heart of love. Let there be wisdom and compassion in all negotiations and decisions; let there be humility in leadership and responsibility for right action shared by all.  Extend the hands of friendship to soften hardened hearts. We pray for those who feel victimised because of their race, disability or background.  And we pray too that we may all learn to be tolerant and celebrate the diversity which you have created. Remove all that diminishes people's worth and build us in Your likeness.

Father God, work in us, inspiring both will and deed.

Lord, we bring to You the joys and worries, the frustrations and accomplishments of this past week in the lives we have met and shared.  As we pray, let Your light shine into all these lives for fresh directing and lasting good.

Father God, work in us. inspiring both will and deed.

We pray for scientists especially those engaged in medical research. As they probe the mysteries of Your creation, guide them in truth and honest endeavour. We pray for those living through the pandemic in fear of domestic abuse.  Give them the knowledge of Your love and support them in their trauma. And we pray too for those facing the threat of redundancy or lost livelihoods.

May the hungry find food shared and the thirsty be revived.

Father God, work in us. inspiring both will and deed.

Lord, we bring to You those we know who are ill or suffering in any way.  Give them healing we pray and restore them in body, mind and spirit, and provide them with the knowledge of Your grace in their distress.

Father God, work in us. inspiring both will and deed.

Lord, we remember in Your presence all those who have died, and particularly those we have known and loved.  Thank you that our own pilgrimage was met by theirs and we pray that Your promise of eternal life and peace may be their prize.  May we comfort one another in our grief, resting in Your love.

Father God, work in us. inspiring both will and deed.

Lord we thank You for Your offer of life in all its abundance; may we accept it with joy today and every day, enabling us both to will and to work for Your pleasure.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers,

for the sake of Your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.  Amen
