Newsletter - 04/10

Sunday 4th October, 17th Sunday after Trinity

Dear friends,

Welcome to this week's newsletter. We meet online or in the Priory in the name of Jesus, our saviour and Lord.

In today's Gospel reading, Jesus said: "The stone the builders rejectedhas become the cornerstone; The Lord has done this, and it is marvellous in our eyes" Mathew 21:42. Today is the 17thSunday after Trinity, and our theme is "Replacing Anger with Love". I will be reflecting on the reading in Matthew's Gospel.

Last week, Jonny was priested at a wonderful communion service with ordination in the Priory. Archdeacon Robert preached, and Bishop John presided. There was superb singing from the Maxim family, Megan Wall and Nick Jackson. Nick also sang the litany beautifully. It was a very happy occasion shared with Jonny and Katie's family and friends. Hopefully, a clip from the ordination will be played in our online service today.

Last week I wrote about our fantastic gardening team transforming the garden at Church House. Sadly, since then several valuable plants have been stolen. This is a hard blow for our team. The police are advising us on additional security measures for Church House.

Congratulations to Mary Wall and her fiancé David Campbell who will be married at the Priory on 14thOctober. This service will be only for the close family, but Mary and David plan to celebrate with friends and family fully at the beginning of 2022. Please pray for Mary and David that God will bless them mightily on their wedding day and grant them great joy in their life together.

Jonny and I have attended a virtual Diocesan Clergy Conference this week, and guest speakers included Mark Oakley, David Runcorn and Bishop Emma Ineson (who was exceptionally good and thought-provoking). Conducting a conference on zoom for 130 people was a logistical challenge, and the Diocesan staff coped well. Jonny and I have sore eyes, however, and feel somewhat "Zoomed out"!

Do mark in your diaries the date of the Church APCM: it will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 22 October 2020 via Zoom. Please consider serving on the PCC. The Churchwardens will guide you to nomination forms, or download them here. We need you!

Every blessing,

Prayer Vine If you would like a prayer request to be put on the Priory Prayer Vine, please email it or telephone 07977 444864.

Our online service will be available on the website as usual.

A maximum of 30 people are allowed in at any one time.  Please maintain social distancing at all times and follow the instructions given. Unfortunately the toilets will not be open.

A date for our diaries This year's Annual Church Meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 22nd October 2020. To enable as many people as possible to attend, taking into account social distancing guidance, the meeting will take the form of a telephone/Zoom video conference (The link to enable members of the congregation to join the meeting will be circulated a few days before the meeting, and again on the day of the meeting). This is our opportunity to reflect on our activities last year, review our finances and learn about the current situation with the Priory Plan. Not to be missed! The Booklet of Reports to the APCM was published a few months ago and is available on the members' section of the Priory website.

Your PCC needs YOU!  Elections to fill 6 vacancies on the PCC will be heldat October's Annual Church Meeting. The time commitment is not too onerous, with four or five Thursday evening PCC meetings and one Saturday meeting per annum. Members will also serve on one of four committees – Buildings & Grounds, Finance, Mission and Worship. This is your chance to contribute to decision-making in your church. If you feel that you could serve in this important way, please download and complete a nomination form from the website and return it to the PCC Secretary at The  Parish Office, Church House, Church Street, Malvern WR14 2AY, or by email. Alternatively, nomination forms are available by contacting the Parish Office. Previous PCC experience definitely not required! Nominations are also invited for 5 representatives on the Deanery Synod (see separate nomination form).
