Intercessions - 03/05

Let us pray

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised though your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith …

Hear us now as we hold before you our sad and fearful world. We pray for:

  • the thousands of people worldwide who are suffering from Covid-19, and other diseases,
  • especially those who may not be getting the treatment they need because of the pressures on medical services produced by the pandemic.

Father, have mercy on all who are sick across our planet;

May they experience tenderness and compassion from those who are their caregivers.
May they know your deliverance from pain and fear.
May they know your hand of healing.

We pray for those who fear for those they love

  • for people who are trying to look after someone sick at home while shielding the rest of their family
  • for those whose sick or dying loved ones are in hospital, or whose elderly family members live alone or in care homes, where they can’t visit or help them
  • for families who see their loved ones going to work every day to care for seriously ill Covid-19 patients, knowing that they may not always have the protective clothing which they need to ensure their safety

Father, have mercy on all of us, separated because of this virus.

May we entrust each other to your love.

We pray for those on the frontline of this new battle:

  • nurses caring day and night for critically ill patients, often taking the place of loved ones who cannot be with the dying
  • doctors working long shifts, making life or death decisions when energy is spent
  • ancillary workers keeping hospitals running
  • all those who keep essential services going while the rest of us are in lockdown
  • scientists working around the clock to understand the virus, to find medicines to ease the symptoms, and searching for a vaccine to protect us.

Father, we pray for all who shoulder these responsibilities.

Sustain them through fatigue.
Support them when they face the loss of patients and colleagues.
Give them courage in the face of this unseen enemy.

Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind or spirit,...

... including those known to us who we name to you now …

Give them courage and hope in their troubles; and bring them the joy of your salvation.

Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
