Worship Committee
The first Worship Committee of the 2025-6 PCC ended and two members stood chatting in the Priory churchyard as dusk gathered. The church stood glowing in the floodlights, when, in the crepuscular gloom, there was movement. A rounded scurrying along the base of the North Transept wall.
’Look behind you. Quick!’
They turned to see a beautiful, fully grown hedgehog going about its nocturnal business in its churchyard. Unconcerned by its newly-found celebrity status, it stopped in a niche to inspect the historic stonework - a tasty morsel perhaps - giving enough time for one of the observers to activate telephoto night-sight on their mobile.
Silently they watched, from a distance, as it trundled on with its business along its own personal highway at the base of the Priory’s wall.
They marvelled at their amazing and unexpected encounter with God’s Creation. What a testament to the re-wilding of the churchyard and the vision of the Environment Group. As Roger preached on Sunday ‘there is hope’.
