The tea-towel of partnership

‘Who’s been to Peru?’ Penny asked
A few hands went up.
‘Who’d like to go to Peru?’
Almost all hands went up.

Juan Carlos and Penny Marces the Priory’s Mission Partners from San Juan Evangelista church, in Lima, Peru, joined the Priory congregation for worship on Sunday, having travelled all the way from the land ever associated with marmalade sandwiches and a small bear in need of a home.

After the 10.30 service, following coffee, served by reps from the PALs whose turn it was on the Priory Coffee Rota, Penny and Juan Carlos brought their world to life with images of their church building and congregation. Fascinating facts emerged; how the Anglican church became part of Peruvian life, the number of our Anglican brothers and sisters, the setting of the churches… a world so different, but united by the Anglican Communion and by the Priory’s Missional links.

Gifts were exchanged - a Priory cross, made from timbers from the old Nave floor by a member of the congregation, and a tea towel featuring the Anglican churches in Peru, celebrating the international partnership.
