Soaring voices
Soaring voices and soaring temperatures coincided, as the boy and girl Choristers of Chester Cathedral travelled south to share their talents in worship at the Priory during Half Term.
Three beautifully sung services of Evensong in the (relative) cool of the Priory, accompanied on the organ, drew large and appreciative congregations.
Custos Dylan gave the Choristers an outline of the Priory’s history and they all enjoyed the Hunt the Monk Trail, searching for the little peg dolls, dressed as monks, who explain some of the roles that the monks took, when the Priory was a Benedictine Monastery.
The Choristers’ visit also took in a tour of Nicholson’s Organ Works, to see how organs are built and restored, ahead of their own organ’s restoration by Nicholson’s, next year.
Elgar’s ‘Doubt not thy Father’s care’ sung on Wednesday, was the inspiration for a visit to Little Malvern, to see the Elgar family graves, and the draw of the Malvern Hills where Elgar famously said ‘there is music in the air, music all around us’ overcame the unusually warm temperatures as the chorister ascended, to enjoy the views, with the skylarks above.
Thank you to all at Chester Cathedral and the Priory who made this uplifting visit so successful.
