It’s so…

…the visitor looked upward and waved her hands helplessly. ‘It’s just so…’
She tried again.
‘It makes me feel so…’
Her voice faded and her sentence remained ever-unfinished as she turned towards the mediaeval stained glass, illuminated by the Spring sunshine.

Indeed, the Priory was a very special place this Holy Saturday. The Welcomers welcomed visitors, handing out the freshly updated Welcome leaflet. ‘Just a Cuppa’ welcomed a new volunteer, tending the steaming urn and in turn, welcoming visitors and revitalising weary flower arrangers. The shop did a busy trade in all things Easter and Priory. Young visitors excitedly completed the Easter Trail, enthusiastically receiving their chocolate egg reward.

The choir, or more properly, ‘choirs’, rehearsed. First the Juniors alone, then with the back row, and finally the Priory Singers. Chorister parents and visitors sat in the Nave listening to the final touches being made to the joyful Easter Day music. ‘I love it when the choir’s rehearsing’ mused a flower arranger as the small army of floral artistes filled the Priory with eco-friendly displays.

The altar, stripped on Maundy Thursday, received a polish, filling the air with the rich scent of beeswax, before the Custos team replaced the linen and frontal ready for Easter Day.

In St Giles’ Chapel, people sat quietly by the Easter Garden; children searched through the hay in the ‘Three Trees’ manger, exclaiming when they found a Little Jesus amongst the fragrant strands. Boats were decorated and added to the lake, in such numbers that an impromptu emergency evening boat-building workshop was required as boat supplies ran low. New boats are now ready for replenishment on Easter Day.

The Priory waits… All is ready for Easter Day.

Everyone’s welcome to worship and celebrate the joy and hope of the resurrection at the Priory.
