Social Caring

In order to express God`s love in practical terms we work with and support a number of organisations in Malvern and beyond. The first, started by Priory members is the Lyttelton Well.

The Lyttelton Well is a group of buildings adjacent to the Priory. It has been developed as a Christian centre, supported by local churches including the Priory.

Besides providing a coffee house and a Christian bookshop, a counselling service is offered in a sympathetic and strictly confidential atmosphere.

We also have a Social Responsibiliy and Action Group

It`s task is to:

  • Act as the community's conscience in matters of social concern
  • Give support to local organisations which care for the disadvantaged

We support Community Action, Malvern and District. * As well as being a volunteer centre, C.A provides a car service for those aged 65 and over or who are registered disabled and who cannot access medical appointments by public transport.

A Shoparound scheme uses C.A minibuses to take elderly housebound or disabled people on shopping or recreational trips. C.A is always looking for new volunteers.

A new "Tea Club" has been started to help older people who are living on their own. This is held monthly in churches on a Sunday afternoon. People report that Sunday is the lonliest day!

There is a Mothers Union Group *in the Priory which meets regularly.

We continue to support the the Jubilee Debt Campaign * because even today more needs to be done to help the poorest nations get out of debt.

We also support the Trade Justice movement, made up of Christian and secular organisations working for a level playing field for trade the whole world over.

Members are also involved in various Malvern Groups:

One of our members leads a group organising holidays for young people from Belarus who suffer the damaging effects from the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident. Ten young people from Belarus stayed for a month in Malvern with the families of church people. They went home on July 17th.
